Privacy Policy & Data Protection (POPIA)

At Creating Jem, we respect your privacy as much as we respect the ocean. This policy explains how I (J E Lewis, the owner) handle your personal information.

1. What Information Do We Collect?

When you make a purchase or sign up for our newsletter, we collect:

  • Identity Data: Your name and surname.
  • Contact Data: Your email address, shipping address, and phone number.
  • Transaction Data: Details about the products you’ve bought from us.

2. How We Use Your Data

We only use your information to:

  • Process and courier your orders.
  • Send you updates about your delivery.
  • Marketing: If you have “opted-in” (joined our mailing list), we will send you occasional emails about new products, brand updates and upcoming events.

3. Consent for Marketing (The Newsletter)

We don’t like “trash” in the ocean or in your inbox.

  • Opt-In: We will only send you marketing emails if you explicitly give us the green light (e.g., ticking a box at checkout or signing up via our footer).
  • Opt-Out: You can opt-out of our mailing list at any time by clicking the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of any email.

4. Who Sees Your Data?

As a sole proprietor, I am the primary “Information Officer.” I do not sell, rent, or trade your data. To get your gear to you, I only share necessary details with:

  • Courier Partners: (e.g., The Courier Guy) so they can find your house.
  • Payment Gateways: (e.g., PayStack, Yoco) to securely process your payment.
  • Email Services: (e.g., Mailchimp, WooCommerce Email) to send our newsletters.

5. Security & Storage

Your data is stored securely on protected servers. While we do our best to keep your information safe, no system is 100% “wipeout-proof.” In the unlikely event of a data breach, we will notify you and the Regulator as required by South African law.

6. Your Rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

Request that I delete your data entirely. To exercise these rights, just drop us a line on our email info@creatingjem.net

Ask what information we have about you.

Ask us to update or correct your details.
